A Note From The Pastor
“The Lord gave Solomon wisdom,
just as he had promised him.” (2 Kings 5:12)
King David died and his son, Solomon, became King of Israel. And Solomon became known for his wisdom!
Sometimes we look at the promises of God in scripture and we really don’t think they apply to us. Christ said, “I will be with you always, even to the end of the age.” But we think he probably didn’t really mean us. God said through the prophet Joel, “I will pour out my Spirit on all people.” But we think that was for that time in history, not for us.
And then comes a time when we know God’s help in the midst of a problem or illness that just devastates us. And we may be surprised. But the promises are there. The scriptures point us to the goodness of God. And yet we are surprised.
God had promised that Solomon would rule Israel with wisdom. And, surprise! It happened.
Surprise can be a good thing. It can shake us out of our ruts and habits at times. But, folks, my challenge for us is to remember God’s promises and live in expectation that God will follow through for our good. And then, when we are surprised, let’s thank God!
