A Note From The Pastor
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6:31c) Summer is one of those times when we say things slow down a bit at the church. Now most of you have heard me say that hot weather is not my thing. And slowing down would be a nice thing when it’s this hot. However, I haven’t seen much sign of a “slow-down” this summer. The one thing we’ve done in the office this summer is try to have the office closed on Fridays. And we’ve succeeded most weeks. Some weeks that hasn’t worked, but most weeks you wouldn’t have found us here on a Friday. Jesus knew that he and the disciples needed a slow-down. They had been so busy that the scripture says they didn’t even have time to eat. So Jesus said to them, “let’s go to a quiet place.” Unfortunately, the people found them and Jesus took pity on them and went back to teaching and healing. But notice that he knew the need for the disciples and himself to have some quiet time—some slow-down. They didn’t get much, but they got some. It’s hard for a pastor to say that we need to have some slow-down or some down time. There are many things in the church that need to be done, and summer is a perfect time to do them since there aren’t usually as many programs going on. However, some slow-down is necessary to recharge our bodies and our souls. I’ll be taking some vacation time in August to go visit my son and just to relax. It’s necessary! And I encourage you to find some time for relaxation and recharging. But, having said that, let me encourage you to still be in worship when you are able. That is a time that can help recharge your souls. And we miss you when you are not with us. It is as we worship together that we know the joy of being in service to our Christ. Relax some this summer, my friends, and then come join us as we worship and fellowship together. And we’ll all be ready for the fall when it cools down and the work speeds up! Pastor Nancy
