A Note From The Pastor
“The kingdom of God….It is like a mustard seed which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches.” (Luke 13:19) Wow! So, have you ever really looked at a mustard seed? They’re tiny! I know about seeds. Tomato seeds cause plants to grow that have blossoms that then turn into tomatoes. Sunflower seeds cause plants to grow that have large flowers that we can harvest lots of seeds from just to eat. Bean seeds cause plants to grow that we can tie to poles until some blossoms turn into beans. I do understand the concept of seeds. I think they’re all pretty miraculous, since we can get flowers and foods and house plants from them. But to think of that tiny mustard seed becoming not just a plant, but an honest to goodness tree is awesome! And Jesus was telling his followers about the kingdom of God and said just think about the mustard seed. Whew! When we stop to think of how God created the world and all that is in it and even us – that’s awesome too. And then Jesus said there’s even more to come. Blessings and miracles and breathtaking remarkable events surround us. I know the news tells us terrible stuff. I know that there is evil in the world. I know that we can’t get away from having to be careful of other people. But we ought to stop – just every once in a while – and remember the mustard seed. And then maybe we’ll remember God’s care for us. And we can sit in awe and give thanks. Pastor Nancy
