A Note From The Pastor
“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.” (Proverbs 4:7) I liked school. And so, when September rolls around each year there is a part of me that gets excited about beginning the new school year. There’s just something fun about new pens and notebooks and workbooks. (Although, I don’t know that they use all that stuff in school anymore.) Now, you’ve heard me say that there is often humor in scripture. I love the proverb that is listed above. When I think of it, though, I have usually just known the first phrase. It does, after all, make sense – the beginning of wisdom is: get wisdom. And I almost always giggle when I read that or think of it. The second part of that hasn’t been “on my radar” before. Whatever you get (I guess that means whatever wisdom you get) get insight. For many years I required the students in Confirmation Class to memorize a passage of scripture. But the kicker was that I always required them to explain that passage to me in their own words. That’s not a bad thing for any of us. So, my challenge to you would be: get some wisdom. Do some studying. Find some scripture and read it through. Then, having read it, do some digging and gain the insight of that Word for you. Want to be wise? The Bible will tell us how! Pastor Nancy
