Praising God

A Note From The Pastor

                        “I will extol the Lord at all times;
                      his praise will always be on my lips.”
                                                  (Psalm 34:1)

I wonder sometimes what would happen if I really followed that suggestion from the psalmist. What would happen if instead of complaining about my hip hurting I praised God? What would happen if when someone promises a job and doesn’t finish on time I praised God? What would happen if I quit worrying about my children or my parents and praised God?

Now, I do try to pray prayers of thanks each day. And even when my prayers are really for intercession or requests, I begin with thanksgiving. But that’s when I’m setting aside time to pray. What would happen if I praised God at all times?

I’m afraid that most of us compartmentalize our lives to the extent that God is just one more piece of the pie. And sometimes that piece isn’t even thought about once a day. But friends, we are Christians. And God calls us to be Christian every hour of every day. So then, everything we do reflects our true beliefs. And if we leave God out until we want something, we’ve missed the point of our faith.

My challenge to you, as we enter the holiday season and get so busy that it’s hard to breathe, is to praise God at all times. It won’t mean that we won’t feel pain or have worries or problems. But it might mean that we’d get through each day just a little easier.
