The Needles Mission Club’s purpose is to provide handcrafted “fiber” items for those in need, either directly to church members and their families/friends, or through a variety of charities. Our primary activity is making lap robes for the cancer center and dialysis units, as well as ‘chemo hats,’ although other items (scarves, hats, mittens, etc.) have also been contributed. Our members’ skill level ranges from novice to expert, and each person contributes in their own way. (One member who cannot knit or crochet sews the squares together, a vital task.) Currently our group is made up of knitters and crocheters, but other fiber artists are certainly welcome. Church members and friends/neighbors contribute from home in a variety of ways – knitting squares, crocheting entire lab robes or just the edging of blankets made up of squares, knitting hats. All are welcome, experienced or not – lessons enthusiastically provided.
