New Beginnings

                                         A Note From The Pastor
“In the beginning……” (Genesis 1:1 or John 1:1)

I like preaching. I like the crafting of words and ideas and putting them together from scripture and seeing what inspiration can happen. I spend hours every six months putting themes in place for the upcoming Sundays.

Every once in a while I get so excited about an idea that I sort of dance with it. One of those is coming up in January. On the 18th we’ll be looking at the lections from January 4 and 11 and putting the ideas together to see how God inspired scripture from thousands of years apart has similarities.

I’m having fun doing this study. It’s stretching me in some ways that I haven’t been stretched recently. It’s making me think! And I’m hoping it will make some of you who attend on the 18th think as well.

Original language aside, it shows that God had inspired people from the beginning of time in much the same way for those thousands of years. There it is: “In the beginning…..” And we have beginnings even yet today.

We talk about new beginnings when we see the start of a new year. We talk about new beginnings when we begin a new project. We talk about new beginnings when we put two congregations together. We talk about new beginnings when we start a new church year. See what I mean?

Well, you can see my excitement in all the words I’ve put down here. I hope you’ll join us in worship on the 18th. We’ll be having our Annual Meeting immediately following worship that day, and maybe we’ll be thinking of even more new beginnings for the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Spencerport. Hmmm!
