A Note From The Pastor
Although I use the end of the book of Jude often for a benediction in worship, I seldom read from that short letter. In my personal reading recently I thought, “It’s short. I’ll read that.” WELL, it may be short, but it packs a punch. According to commentaries, we don’t know exactly to whom the letter was written. And, we don’t know exactly what the writer was reacting to. But what we do know is that he told the folks who read this that they needed to “keep on keeping on.” “But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy family and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” (verses 20-21) Sometimes when things get difficult, what I really want to do is bury my head in the sand! Sometimes when it seems like there’s too much bad news, I just want to lock the door and not answer the phone. But Jude tells us not to let what others do and say get us down. He says to rely on God’s grace and mercy in the face of all the bad news. So, there you go: 25 little verses. I challenge you to read them this month and let them soak into your souls. And then come out with the excitement and perseverance that is ours in Christ. Pastor Nancy
