Song of Praise to God

A Note From The Pastor

“O sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done
marvelous things!.....Make a joyful noise [now] to the
      Lord, all the
earth;……He will judge the world with
            righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.”
                                  (from Psalm 98)

If you’re looking for it, the psalms often share history that was to be shared with the people of God. Some of them even retell the stories of the great things God has done in the past.

When we look at our past – in our personal lives or in the church – we remember the events that have impacted us. Sometimes, unfortunately, we get stuck there and think we want the past back. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a packed house every Sunday like they did in ____? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a group of folks who gather like they did in ____?

Sometimes we do remember to look at the things that are happening to us in the present. We may be caught up in pain of what is happening. Or we may be thinking of the wonderful things we now have. And there are times when we get so caught up in today that we forget other people or even our futures.

And there are some of us who look to the future. Young people often say, “I can’t wait until _____.” Or some of you may say “when today is over, things will be better.” Sometimes we get so caught up in the future that we forget to live today.

Psalm 98 tells us that we are to praise God for all of this – past, present, and future.

So let me challenge you: Remember the past, it was sometimes good and sometimes bad, but then leave the past to God. Think of your present and live it for God. Anticipate the future, and look to God for the guidance for what you are called to do.

That’s it. Easy, right? Or maybe not so easy, but right in the sight of God. And then sing a new song of praise to God.                                                                                                                                             Pastor Nancy
