Note From The Pastor
Sabbatical == a period of time during which someone does not work at his or her regular job and is able to rest, travel, do research, etc. In many cases, especially in education, a Sabbatical is a full year and is awarded after seven years of service. Folks, you will be hearing about my Sabbatical for the next couple of years. The contract that we have together states that I am entitled to a three month Sabbatical after five years of service as your pastor. That would have meant that I should have taken three months during the year 2015. I didn’t do that! I recently began to think seriously about how I would like to “do” my Sabbatical. The Board of Religious Services has approved my suggestions, so you will be hearing more about my time of relaxation and study in the next two years. For the beginning of that time I’ll be taking one month away from May 16 to June 15. One of the study things I will be doing during that month is attending the Festival of Homiletics that will be held in Atlanta in 2016. (You may remember that I attended this event in 2013 in Nashville.) That is a week of hearing some of the best preachers in the nation in various settings in the city. What an opportunity! Scripture tells us that Jesus often sought time away from the crowds and the teaching and healing that he did. He needed the time for renewal and prayer and rest. That’s what I will hope to do in the coming months. I will try to keep you informed as to when I will be gone and what I will be doing. This will be our time for sharing and relearning and rejuvenation for the time ahead of us. Pastor Nancy
