A Note From The Pastor
“And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children.” (Deuteronomy 6:6-7a) I love to read! In April I went to one of our elementary schools to share in reading books in several classes. It is fun to read and watch faces light up as the children hear the stories. Some Sundays I enjoy reading a book to the children who gather for worship as we talk about our faith. (And often adults will ask for titles and authors so they can get copies.) I love to read! I have several books lined up on a shelf at my home that I intend to read during the time set aside for my Sabbatical next month. I’m looking forward to delving into the stack of new information and theology, as well as a couple of novels that have been recommended to me. But I also love delving into the Word – our scriptures – that are mentioned in the passage above. Sometimes I read something I’ve never noticed before. Sometimes I take comfort from a favorite passage that stands the test of time. Beginning May 16, I will be reading. During the week of May 16-20, I will spend more time listening to preaching as I attend the Festival of Homiletics. But I am almost certain that I will also find new books at the bookstore at that event. And then until June 16 I will have time just to read! My challenge to you for this period of time is to read. Find a favorite book and re-read it. Sit with your Bible and read it. Read that new book that someone recommended. Take the time to read. And then we’ll compare notes when I get back from my refreshing month of Sabbatical. Pastor Nancy
