A Note From The Pastor
“My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant.” (Luke 1:46-47) I love Christmas music. I love the carols, the traditional hymns, the silly Christmas songs and the romantic ones. I love Christmas music. And I don’t apologize for that. (Even though having one of my favorite stations start playing Christmas music in the middle of November 24/7 was a little jarring.) The scripture quoted above is called Mary’s song, even though it begins by saying “Mary said….” I like to think that Mary actually did sing. There are times that I’ll start singing for no reason other than the fact that I feel like singing. And when we worship, I love that we sing and that the choir sings and that we have musicians who help lead us to worship with song. How can we help but be stirred by the wonderful music of “The Messiah?” Or the lovely strains of “Silent Night?” And how can we stay still when we hear or sing “Patapan?” I love Christmas music! But it is more than just loving the music of the season. That music reminds me of the great gift that God gave us in the person of Jesus Christ. Even the silly ditties that we hear or sing remind me that the season is a holiday – a holy day – that we celebrate because God is with us! So, I encourage you to listen differently this year to the music of this Advent and Christmas season. Let it thrill and excite you. Let it be a reminder of God’s great love. Pastor Nancy
