_ A Note From The Pastor
“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16) Epiphany falls on the first Sunday in January this year. Epiphany marks the beginning of a whole season that is often called the season of light. It ends with the beginning of Lent, so it may be a different number of weeks each year, depending on how Easter falls. There are many customs around the world for celebrating Epiphany. It centers on the coming of the Sages to worship the Messiah. And, you remember, they followed the light of the star to find him. So, this season of light will be here, and it is a reminder that we are to be light to the world – pointing to the coming of the Christ. That’s what Jesus was talking about when he said the words from Matthew’s account. One of my favorite Epiphany hymns has the chorus that goes: “We will follow the light, beautiful light, come where the dewdrops of mercy are bright. Shine all around us by day and by night, Jesus, the light of the world.” That’s what we are to do – follow the light of Jesus and be light to others. Easier said than done, I know. But we can continue to try this season. Pastor Nancy
