God's Gifts

A Note From The Pastor

     “But I have trusted in thy steadfast love; my heart shall              rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because
             he has dealt bountifully with me.” (Psalm 13:5-6)

Life is not always great. Well, most of us know that. We may say it with other words like: “it’s not fair” or “there’s no justice” or others, but life is not always great.

The psalmist knew that. The psalm from which the passage above came begins with complaining and concern over God’s presence. Life isn’t great for him, and he comes to God to make his displeasure known.

But then, but then – he remembers, as we should, that God does love us all. God has given us good things. God has blessed us with life and love and grace.

Certainly I believe that we can come to God with our concerns and our complaints and our whining. And God will listen and still love us. And God will listen and still deal bountifully with us. And God will listen and still give us grace.

Sometimes when I have a bad day and just want to whine to God, that’s all I do. But sometimes when everything seems to be going wrong and I come to God to complain, I remember! I remember the wonder of God’s gifts. I remember God’s love in the midst of the bad stuff. And I give thanks.

As we approach the season of Lent, let us remember and give thanks. That’s the challenge!
