A Note From The Pastor “What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done; and there is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) There are some weeks when that is exactly how I feel! As I write this in the middle of December, I’m having one of those weeks. “Same old, same old.” And yet, each time I think that I remember that for the folks with whom I come in contact, that is not true. This is not the same thing for them. We are walking together through issues and pain and grief that is absolutely brand new for them. And God does not say to us, “I’ve heard that all before,” when we pray. God’s comfort and care are new each day. God’s help is always with us. We may grow weary with what is happening, but God will hold us close. The Preacher in Ecclesiastes seems to be all gloom and doom when we read that book. But, there is a gem in the midst of this sermon. Chapter 7 gives us hope. Among other things it says, “In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider; God has made the one as well as the other.” No matter that people have had pain or grief, illness or despair through the centuries, God still hears our prayers and answers each of us. God will still comfort and protect us, even if it’s something that’s been seen before. And we can count on that! Pastor Nancy
