START THE 2020 SCHOOL YEAR OFF RIGHT!
We couldn’t pass up this important annual event. Pastor Michael will bless kids’ school backpacks outside our church on Thursday evening September 3rd from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Families should drive up in front of church and stop at the sidewalk, roll down the car window and hold up the back pack. Pastor will say a blessing and give each pack a “blessed” tag.
START THE 2020 SCHOOL YEAR OFF RIGHT! THE BIKE IS BACK!
Our Board of Christian Ed has put our little purple bike back out front of our church, and in its basket are small workbooks! Children that walk by can help themselves to one. There is a label with our church’s contact info on the back. Check it out! CHURCH WORLD SERVICE TOOLS OFFERING
Sunday – June 21st The Tools Offering is a special mission opportunity to assist people in need around the world. Your contributions provide the means for them to gain the resources and develop the skills necessary to sustain themselves and their families and to build viable communities. The Tools Offering helps to provide small tools, seedlings, water pumps, basic farm implements, training, etc. SUMMER OFFICE HOURS
Beginning the week of June 8, the church office will be on summer hours. The office will be closed on Mondays and Fridays. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8. Please call ahead before coming to church to be sure someone is here. A REQUEST FROM YOUR FINANCE BOARD
We are trying to make our banking deposits more efficient. Therefore, we are asking that every single time you write a check to our church - for whatever purpose - please make it payable to FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. Then...on the “memo line” (bottom left)...write the reason for your check. For example: pledge/offering; CROP Walk; Penny Jar; NIN; Blankets; Tools; Strengthen the Church; OGHS; Christmas Fund; to name a few. Thanks so much to each of you for helping us at this difficult time. It is most appreciated. PENNY JAR NEWS
The proceeds from our May Penny Jar collection will also be designated for Lollypop Farm. They need our help supporting them. See additional information below: Shelters are still caring for animals even though most have closed their doors to the public. But as they lay off staff, much of the work (cleaning, feeding and walking) is falling to skeleton crews. Meanwhile, adoption events and fundraisers which are the life blood of these non-profits have been cancelled. It couldn't have come at a worse time. March is typically when pregnant animals and litters of unwanted kittens and puppies start showing up. It's really overwhelming for most shelters out there because all these litters start coming in on a daily basis. When space is severely limited, euthanasia becomes a population control tool. As people lose their jobs and possibly their homes, many will be forced to give up their pets. Recently in the news, it was noted that some families, concerned that their pets may be exposed to the virus have been abandoning them at the shelter. Please consider donating to Lollypop Farm through our Penny Jar funds this month. You can mail a check in any amount made out to the church, and we will total the donations and send one check from the church account. This year the "Strengthen the Church" offering will be received on Pentecost Sunday, May 31. This special mission offering supports the expansion of ministry and growth of UCC local congregations. This offering will help the UCC fulfill its commitment to creating a just world for all by investing in new ministries and practices that meet the emerging needs of local communities. As a reminder, every dollar donated to the fund will be matched by the church. The amount will be announced at a later date to allow everyone to be aware of the donation. Thank you for your continuous support! The first Sunday in May is traditionally the day volunteers walk six miles for the Spencerport Crop Walk. There will be no actual walk this year due to the pandemic. Instead of walkers collecting money, CWS (Church World Service) is requesting we donate online. Our participation is truly needed even more this year. Remember, 25% of money raised in Spencerport is returned to our local Food Shelf. Please donate online by going to: http://www.crophungerwalk.org/spencerportny. Click on Donate-Spencerport Hunger Walk. You may use a name (mine or yours with UCC or Team UCC). Follow the prompts to donate. If you don't have the use of a computer, you may send a check payable to CWS/CROP WALK, and mail it to: CWS, PO Box 968, Elkhart, IN 46515. Please be sure to include Spencerport, NY UCC on the memo line of the check so our church and Food Shelf gets credited. Thank you in advance for your consideration and contribution. If someone in your immediate family is graduating from high school, college or post- graduate school, please contact the church office at admin@spencerportucc.org or (585) 352-3448 and let us know! Share the student’s name, the school from which s/he is graduating, and any future plans. Thank you and congratulations! Deadline: May 14. |
