It’s that time of year! The person who sits in the pew next to you or across the aisle may be asking you to help on a board. I know from experience that you don’t need experience – since I skipped over the “Moderator-Elect training period,” I’ve discovered how supportive everyone is. You will discover the same thing. You will also discover or re-discover how good it feels to support your peers (of all ages) in church and your church’s mission. (And, of course, there is the old cliché, “many hands make light work.”) Your church does need you!
So, can you spare 2-3 hours/month? What’s your favorite thing? Are you interested in trying something new? You don’t have to wait to be asked; you can call or volunteer for your area of interest or ask a board chairperson to talk about what his/her board does or how you can help. There will be copies of the descriptions of the duties of each board available in the Fellowship Hall; or call the church office for a copy of a particular board you think you might be interested in. Please feel free to call me at 352-4548 or the church office at 352-3448 or any board chairperson (Tom Coburn, Len Ippolito, Gay Lenhard, Paulette Morgan, Ginny Worden, Michele Zelaya). Respectfully submitted by Holly Bauer-Mergen, your Moderator We’re trying something new! We’ll be joining with other churches in our area to do a joint Christmas program. This teaser is simply so that you can get it on your calendars. And our children will have the opportunity to be involved.
“What Do We Really Need for Christmas?” will be presented at the Ogden Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 18 at 2:00 and again at 4:30. Tickets will be available so that you can ensure a seat (they’ll be free), so after November 15th you’ll be able to check with someone from the Board of Christian Education for those. Do you know how many lections there are listed for each week? Do you even know for sure what lections are? Have you ever wondered how scripture themes for worship get chosen?
Do we have an opportunity for you! Beginning September 7, the pastor will be leading a Lectionary Bible Study weekly. We will meet at 10:30 each Wednesday to do some in depth study of the scriptures that are listed for each week. Plan now to bring your Bible and join us as we probe the scriptures. If there is enough interest evinced among folks who are unable to attend mornings, we may consider offering an evening study later. It won’t matter how many come, we will study the Bible. It will be worth it for the ones who are able to attend! We will gather with many from our community on September 11 at the Gazebo at 6:00. This will be a time of honoring those who continue to serve us here and abroad. Plan now to be a part of this time of sharing with our friends and neighbors.
