"Life is but a circular motion.” On Ash Wednesday each year I am reminded that the church year goes round and round. On Palm Sunday each year we share in the excitement of the story of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. At the end of the worship we save some of the palms that are our reminders for prayer for that week. Those palms that we save are then burned just before we gather to worship on Ash Wednesday and we let those ashes remind us of the debt we owe our Christ. This year we will begin our Ash Wednesday evening with a soup supper. At least two pots of soup will be available to share, along with bread and dessert. After we share this simple meal together, we will journey to the chapel for our time of worship. For those who do not choose to eat with us, the meal will begin at 6:00 and the worship will start at 7:00. Come share the fellowship of the table and this meaningful retelling of the story. Ash Wednesday is February 18. Come and be with us. MARDI GRAS WORSHIP Those of you who have worshipped with us on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday in the past five years know that I like to redeem practices that seem really secular. And that’s what we do on “Mardi Gras” Sunday. On February 15, we will have some fun as we worship. There will be two (yes, two) parades, lots of fun music, masks, beads, and some special treats this year. And in the midst of the laughter and fun, we will remember the God who gives us that joy. So plan now to come worship with us on February 15 and let God’s good times roll! |
