HOLY HILARITY SUNDAY - April 7
For those of you who were present on the Sunday following Easter last year, you know how much fun we had. What I call “Holy Hilarity Sunday” has its roots in the fact that because of Christ’s death and resurrection, we can laugh at death. It no longer has power over those of us who claim the name of Christian.
We will celebrate this once more on April 7. At this special worship, there will be more than a few surprises, and some good fun. Plan now to come and share with us as we laugh and remember the goodness that is ours because of the resurrection!
Don’t miss this!!
NEW MEMBERS SUNDAY
On April 21 we will be receiving new members here at the church. At the moment, we have two folks who are planning to join our congregation. If you would like to become a member, please contact Pastor Nancy.
HOTDISH COOK-OFF - MAY 5
The Chili Cook-Off was such a success, that we’re doing another cook-off. This time we’re trying something different. On May 5, immediately following worship we will have a Hotdish Cook-Off.
According to How to Talk Minnesotan by Howard Mohr: “A traditional main course, hotdish is cooked and served hot in a single baking dish and commonly appears at family reunions and church suppers.” In its history, hotdish traditionally contained frozen or canned vegetables, canned soup, a starch, and a protein. Still eaten frequently at Minnesota churches, it can stretch to feed many people. One of the most popular hotdishes in the churches I served there was “tater tot hotdish.”
Now it’s your turn! Create your own hotdish for us to share and vote on. Sign up sheets will be in the fellowship hall for those who plan to make and bring a hotdish and for those who are coming to eat and vote. The Transition Committee will provide salad, drinks, dessert, and bread.
They serve us faithfully! On April 14 during our morning worship and at a luncheon immediately following we will honor the members of our Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department. This is not a time to set the members of that group apart, but to honor them and share with them. We would like a count for the lunch for that day, so if you are able to attend, please sign up on the sheet downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. If you would like to contribute to the costs for that day, you can make sure that is received in the office.
