HOLY WEEK
Holy Week is always an opportunity for us to worship and reflect on God’s great gift of grace. This year’s Holy Week is no exception: Palm Sunday, March 20th, is the celebration of the entry of Jesus and the disciples into the city of Jerusalem. Following worship that day, our children will have the opportunity to share in an Egg Hunt. The egg is a symbol of Easter and there are a number of traditions that grew up around it. Our children will have the opportunity to share in the fun of this day in seeking eggs to share. Tuesday, March 22nd, is the opportunity to share in worship at the Wedgewood Nursing Home. My custom is to read the story of the resurrection and then share with the residents in singing whatever they would like to sing. (I actually do this most months, so you’re welcome to share in that any time you can.) Maundy Thursday, March 24th, will be the sharing of dinner and then worship around the table as we remember the Last Supper of Christ with his friends before the crucifixion. In years past we have shared in the Seder celebration. This year will be different, but no less fun and exciting. A sign-up sheet is posted in the Fellowship Hall or call the church office (352-3448) and we will sign you up. Good Friday, March 25th, we will share with friends from our Spencerport Ecumenical Ministries churches at noon here in our chapel. That evening at 7:00, also in the chapel, we will have the opportunity to remember the sacrifice of our Christ in worship. Easter Sunday, March 27th, at 7:00 a.m. at the Spencerport Gazebo we will share in worship with friends from the community as we share in a Sonrise Worship. Following worship, a breakfast will be served at the Spencerport Methodist Church. Our Festival Worship will be at 10:15 in the sanctuary and will be the culmination of the celebration of this most holy week. Plan now to come to as many of these events as you are able as we remember and share in worship in Holy Week. Spencerport Ecumenical Food Shelf
The Food Shelf helps feed people who are hungry in our community (might be your neighbor, co-worker, church member) and is completely dependent on your generous donations of food and money, so thank you everyone for your continued support. The current food needs are: peanut butter, jelly, rice, hamburger helper, and toothpaste. These are items which are in short supply at this time, but any non- perishable food item is always appreciated. If you know anyone in need, please have them call 277-4917. Foodlink's Mobile Food Pantry will be visiting the Spencerport area on March 18th at the Cosgrove Middle School, 2749 Spencerport Road. Anyone over 18, can pick up food between 5 pm and 7 pm. If you have any questions about the Food Shelf or Mobile Food Pantry, please call Nancy Wilcox at 391-3082 or email nwilcox101@hotmail.com. Medicine Bottles for Malawi - No More Thank you everyone for all the empty prescription bottles. It was such a success that the program had to end due to the overwhelming response. Even though the program has ended, this congregation went above and beyond when the request was made to help other people in another country. ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING
The date for this offering has been moved up because of the early Lent and Easter. During our worship on March 6, we will receive the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. The theme for this year’s OGHS offering is: “Go the Extra Mile.” Once again this year we are sharing the calendar of prayer each week in our worship bulletin. Those reminders help us to remember why we might “go” or give extra. As we share in giving with brothers and sisters of faith in many denominations, let us remember that we are all giving in the name of Christ. Many people need our help, and this is one way of giving to them. On March 6, I encourage you to “Go the Extra Mile” in giving to help those in need here at home and around the world. |
